Red light therapy (RLT), also known as photobiomodulation (PBM), uses specific wavelengths of red (around 660 nm) and near-infrared light (around 850 nm) to stimulate the mitochondria—the “powerhouses” inside your cells. This helps increase cellular energy (ATP), which supports the body’s natural healing, repair, and recovery processes.
Potential Benefits
Healthier, younger-looking skin
- Stimulates collagen and elastin production
- Helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Improves skin tone, texture and elasticity
- May reduce redness and signs of sun damage
- Can improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks
Faster healing & tissue repair
- Supports wound healing
- Encourages tissue regeneration
- Improves circulation and oxygen delivery to cells
- May accelerate recovery after injury or surgery
Reduced inflammation & pain
- Helps decrease inflammation throughout the body
- May reduce joint and muscle pain
- Has shown benefits for conditions such as osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia in clinical studies
Muscle recovery & performance
- May reduce post-exercise muscle soreness
- Supports faster recovery after training
- Can improve muscle function and reduce fatigue when used consistently
Hair growth
- May increase hair density and thickness in people with androgenetic (pattern) hair loss.
- Often used alongside other hair restoration treatments.
Supports certain skin conditions
Research suggests benefits for:
- Acne
- Rosacea
- Psoriasis
- Eczema
- Sun-damaged skin
Scientists are also investigating red and near-infrared light for:
- Cognitive function and brain health
- Healthy ageing
- Nerve repair
- Chronic fatigue
- Recovery after neurological injury
Early results are promising, but larger, high-quality clinical trials are still needed before these uses become established treatments.

For Red light to be effective the skin must be exposed to the light. It will not work through clothing.
If you only require a certain area to be treated you can just wear/cover the rest of your body with dark/thick clothing.
Safety
Red light and near-infrared therapy are non-invasive, drug-free, and do not contain harmful UV radiation. When used correctly, they have an excellent safety profile with very few reported side effects. As with any health treatment, it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions, avoid overuse, and consult a healthcare professional if you have a medical condition.
HEALTH ISSUES?
To err on the side of caution please start with ¼ of the recommended application times listed in the guide and as mentioned above always consult your physician before using a light therapy device. Be sure to specifically ask if any of your medications or conditions increase light sensitivity as this will also increase your sensitivity to RED/NIR light.
WARNINGS: DO NOT USE Red Light Therapy Devices if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or nursing as the risks are unknown and have not been established.
